Behavioural measurement for children's digital content

Age ratings tell parents what a show forbids.
We measure what it teaches.

Kidoio assigns every children's video a developmental age band — anchored on Tier 1 evidence-based frameworks, not editorial opinion. For any title, we produce a structured scorecard across nine behavioural dimensions plus a content-maturity verdict, with timestamped on-screen evidence for every claim.

The gap age ratings don't close

Studio ratings describe forbidden content. They do not describe what the narrative rewards, how conflicts resolve, how pacing affects cognitive engagement, or which age bands the material is genuinely appropriate for.

Two shows that pass their age rating. One is a fast-cut dopamine loop marketed to three-year-olds. The other explicitly rewards physical force with status elevation. Kidoio flags both — with timestamped on-screen evidence for every claim.

What Kidoio measures

Nine behavioural dimensions and one maturity dimension. Every score anchored on a Tier 1 framework with strong empirical support; every claim linked to a specific observed scene.

Empathy & emotion-naming

Acknowledgement of emotions, concern for harm, apology, repair. RULER (Brackett) + Gottman.

Aggression

Physical force, threats, intimidation. Cartoon and live-action distinguished. Bandura + Tremblay.

Cooperation vs dominance

How conflicts resolve: collaboration, authority, or overpowering. Bandura + Gottman.

Conflict resolution style

Dialogue, authority, force, avoidance, none. Repair attempts flagged. Gottman + Greene CPS.

Reward framing

What the narrative rewards — process, outcome, prosocial, aggressive. Bandura.

Cognitive engagement

Pacing, repetition, narrative dependency. Brain-rot pattern flagged. Vygotsky + AAP/WHO.

Self-regulation modelled

Whether characters show strategies (distraction, reframing, naming) or pure willpower. Gottman.

Adult voice modelled

Authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, uninvolved, or shaming. Baumrind.

Body & autonomy framing

Anatomical correctness, consent, forced sharing or apology framing. AAP guidance.

+ Content maturity

A separate layer tracking real violence, on-screen death, drug use, alcohol / tobacco, sexual content, graphic imagery, and other adult themes. Each tagged with intensity and minimum appropriate age.

How it works

Three steps. Same engine for a URL, an uploaded file, or a full catalog.

01

Content in

YouTube URL, video file, or full catalog via API. No scraping — we process YouTube URLs through first-party infrastructure.

02

Whole-video analysis

A multimodal model watches every second. Visual and audible. Actions, reactions, reward cues, pacing, on-screen mature themes. Enumeration only — no judgement.

03

Deterministic scoring

Rule-based scores from observed instances. Every flag links to a specific timestamp. Every rule is documented, versioned, auditable.
